UPSC Gujarat topper from remote Kutch village

Nundhatan village of Kutch district is in limelight. Thanks to a young man from this tiny village with a population of just 1,400. Hitesh Joysar has stood first in Gujarat in the UPSC exams.

RAJKOT: Nundhatan village of Kutch district is in limelight. Thanks to a young man from this tiny village with a population of just 1,400. Hitesh Joysar has stood first in Gujarat in the UPSC exams. The boy used to travel 12 kilometres everyday for his higher secondary education.The village and Bhanusali community, to which Hitesh Joysar belongs, were eagerly waiting to welcome him.

When Joysar reached district headquarters Bhuj after clearing the UPSC, he was overwhelmed by the welcome he got.
Joysar, 27, told TOI, "I had set my goal 10 years ago. I was confident of making it." His father Hansraj, a farmer, has only studied upto class VII. His mother Premilaben is not much educated. Joysar said, "My mother loves me the most and my father is my inspiration. I come from a village where a boy is married off as soon as he finishes his education. However, my family allowed me to pursue my dream."
Joysar always got distinction in the studies.This made his father also focus on his education. As Nundhatan village had only a primary school, Joysar's father decided to shift to Bhuj for his sake.
Joysar graduated from J B Thakkar Commerce College in 2005. He appeared for the UPSC exams, but failed to crack it on three occasions. However, he put in all his efforts during his last chance while taking coaching at SPIPA.
Joysar also worked as development officer with LIC and then moved to SBI as assistant manager at Navrangpura. He had taken philosophy as his optional subject. He will be going for the IAS training in September.
